Supporting multidisciplinary research collaborations in advanced technology systems has always been at the core of ICICS’ activities. As we move into our fourth decade, ICICS is taking concrete steps to amplify the impact of our members’ research, by identifying and supporting multidisciplinary research teams in areas of strength. We are also developing programs and mechanisms to ensure our members’ research outcomes are translated to society, through licensing by industry, uptake by the general user, and/or incorporation into policy, standards, and educational programs. For our more entrepreneurially minded members, graduate students, and staff, we have established the HATCH startup incubator in the ICICS building, in collaboration with entrepreneurship@UBC (e@UBC) and the Sauder School of Business. Several HATCH anchor companies have already generated significant attention from investors and large corporations.
I look forward to advancing ICICS’ role in UBC’s research-to-innovation pipeline in the coming years, and welcome your input.
