Blockchain@UBC Precision Health Wallet Project Hailed by Federal Minister

In 2018, the ICICS research cluster Blockchain@UBC began a Mitacs-funded project to explore the intersectionality of privacy, identity and blockchain technology. This led to the research team developing a self-sovereign health records management solution leveraging blockchain that received co-investment from Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster. The project was hailed recently by Canada’s Federal Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry, Navdeep Bains, at the Annual General Meeting of the Supercluster:

“One project that stood out was the Precision Health Wallet project (My PDx), that enables people to get test results, prescription history, treatment of record in a safe and secure manner. And so, as people are becoming more and more digital, we’re seeing some of those incredible solutions play out. This explains and underscores the importance of all hands-on deck, it’s not simply about government, but it is a public, private partnership of everyone coming together as we support Canadians.” – The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry

The project has offered valuable training experiences for several Blockchain PhD and master’s students, exemplifying how Blockchain@UBC, with the support of ICICS, is having an impact on society.
