ICICS and the University-Industry Liaison Office (UILO) have recently negotiated a novel 10-year blanket research agreement between UBC and global wireless device semiconductor company Qualcomm, Inc. Under the agreement, UBC researchers and the University receive research funding for Qualcomm-funded research projects, as well as cash payments for specific patents as they are realized. This prototype agreement makes it much easier for Qualcomm to collaborate on multidisciplinary research projects such as the ICICS People and Planet Friendly Home sustainability initiative. The company intends to use the UBC agreement as a template for extending their academic collaborations worldwide.
