Five ICICS Research Clusters Funded in UBC Competition

Five research clusters supported by ICICS have been funded in UBC’s recent Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters (GCRC) competition. The five funded clusters (out of a UBC total of 33) include:

• Biomedical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence. Leads: Tim Salcudean (ECE); Peter Zandstra (Medical Genetics), Director, School of Biomedical Engineering/Michael Smith Labs
• Bionics@UBC. Lead: John Madden (ECE)
Blockchain@UBC. Leads: Victoria Lemieux (iSchool); Chen Feng, School of Engineering (UBC-O)
Designing for People (DFP). Lead: Karon MacLean (CS); second round of GCRC funding as an established cluster; and
• STITCH (SmarT Innovations for Technology Connected Health). Lead: Peyman Servati (ECE).

ICICS research clusters are made up of large teams of multidisciplinary researchers uniting to solve problems that are beyond the scope of traditional approaches to research. By providing a wide range of support to research clusters, ICICS is helping to lay the groundwork for successful pursuit of large-scale funding opportunities and meaningful industry partnerships.
