Books Still Matter in the Digital Age: The ICICS/CS Reading Room Book Club

The ICICS/CS Reading Room provides dedicated, in-house information resources and assistance for the Department of Computer Science and ICICS. On offer are a comprehensive core collection of books, journals, and theses;  online electronic resources; and course reserves for Computer Science and other related courses.

This term, the Reading Room launched book clubs for undergraduate and graduate ICICS/Computer Science students. Books are selected by the participants and chapter copies are provided by the Reading Room, and discussed over pizza and other goodies.

Recent books discussed include Dacey’s Patent Automatic Nanny, by Ted Chiang (Undergrad Students Book Club), and An Applied Mathematician’s Apology, by Lloyd N. Trefethen (Grad Students Book Club).

Undergrad Book Club meetings will resume in September. There is still one more meeting of the Grad Students Book Club, on Friday, April 28th 3-4PM. For more information, contact Reading Room staff at rdngroom@cs.ubc.ca.
