Blockchain Industry Night September 23, 2021

The industry night held by the ICICS research cluster Blockchain@UBC  on September 23 was a great success, even if it had to be held online. To recap, we openly acknowledged the contribution of industry partners to the Blockchain Graduate Pathway and the continuous support of Mitcas, NSERC and ICCIS (The Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems). We also held a panel discussion where students, professors and industry partners shared their experience with industry-academia collaboration. In addition, participants built new friendships through rounds of networking.

Industry partners and their contributions acknowledged include:

Molecular You — 14 internships, under the project “Removing Technical, Data, and Social Barriers to Broader Adoption of Blockchain”)
In addition, 1 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for Dr. Mohammad Jalalzai focused on blockchain scalability.

Boeringher-Ingelheim — 2 postdoctoral research fellow, Dr. Jaafar Nehme who is researching in blockchain interoperability. Dr. Chang Lu researching the adoption of blockchain in healthcare from the business perspective. In addition, 9 internships under Dr. Lu’s postdoc project.

Peer Social — 6 internships  (Two internships under the project “Removing Technical, Data, and Social Barriers to Broader Adoption of Blockchain cluster proposal, other four internships titled “The Implications of Blockchain Technology on Privacy, Regulation, and Public Policy”  “Evaluation of a Blockchain-Based Identity Management System: An Exploratory Multiple Case Study Approach” “Trusted Records in Tapestry Approach”

Finhaven — 4 internships (All internships under the project “Removing Technical, Data, and Social Barriers to Broader Adoption of Blockchain”)

Lifeguard — 4 internships (respectively titled “Development of a Blockchain-enabled privacy-preservingsolution to enhance opioid crisis prevention SaaS solutions”    “ Information Literacy and Blockchain Technology”     “Developing a Holistic Information Security Governance Framework for a Decentralized System: Guiding Information Security Governance for a Blockchain-Based and ‘Opioid harm reduction’ Informed Solution Enabling the Secondary Use of Data”     “Blockchain in opioids supply chain and healthcare data recording”

Aquanow Now — 2 Internships. Titled “An optimized relay for interoperating between ledgers”.

Fortis BC — 1 internship ( under the project “Removing Technical, Data, and Social Barriers to Broader Adoption of Blockchain”)

Imprimo — 1 internship (under the project “Removing Technical, Data, and Social Barriers to Broader Adoption of Blockchain”)
