UBC Awarded $10M Canada Excellence Research Chair in Digital Media

In the spring of 2012, ICICS at the request of UBC’s Office of the VP Research & International led development of a proposal for a $10M, 7-year Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Digital Media Research and Innovation. Our proposal was recently selected as one of 11 successful CERC applications from across Canada, out of 46 proposals submitted by 27 universities. The CERC awards are considered to be among the most prestigious and generous in the world.

The Chair, associated Centre, and four new dedicated faculty positions will be housed in ICICS, and exploit synergies between BC’s flourishing digital media industries and UBC’s research strengths. As a result, the University and the province will be propelled to the front ranks of digital media research and innovation internationally.
